BABY ELEPHANT IN POOL

This was taken at the tiny Manitou Springs Zoo in the mountains near Colorado Springs, Colorado.  It was closing time at the zoo, and the elephant caretakers were tasked with getting the elephants back into their barn enclosure for the night.  All of the adult elephants had already gone inside.  But two baby elephants had devised a scheme whereby one elephant would manage to run out of the barn just as the other one entered.  There was a large cement pool in their outdoor area, and they were having the best time running around and playing and splashing and spraying one another in the pool.  It was hilarious.  At one point they stopped for a second and one of them peered up over the side of the pool at me.  This photo makes me smile every time I look at it.  And although they were in captivity, they were so joyful.
